My husband built a vacation home for us.
My husband built a vacation home for us. My mother in law provided most of the money and he did the labor. Once done, it was only in his and her name. She did not want my name on it. Upon the death of one, it would be left to the survivor. My husband wanted to add my name and she refused. (she does not see me as family even though we have been married 21 years) We received a legal document in the mail from her lawyer and did not really understand what it was. She said we both needed to sign, she was adding me to the cottage deed. After signing I still felt uncomfortable about what I actually signed and called the lawyer. His secretary told me that i had signed away all my rights to the cottage including my dower rights. She was surprised I did not know that. Anyway within the last 2 years she took her name off and left it in my husbands name only. (Quit claim deed.) I feel my name should now be on it, he said I automatically receive the cottage if he passes first because I am his wife. Not really sure if the paper I signed before is still active, what my rights would be and how do i find out if the paper she had me sign is still valid. Need advice on what to do. I don’t care if I get it but want it to be in the family for my boys. They are 20 and 16. Should we add their names to the deed with my husband? Thanks for any help you can give me.

marital debt
I am going through a divorce. in short I moved out of tthe house 2 1/2 years ago. During that time my soon to be ex re-financed the house. I am not on the note but the mortgage co. required that I sign the mortgage. I then quit claimed all rights to the property to him. Things have changed for him financially and he is considering selling the house, however it is financed for more then it is worth. He is stating that he waants me to be responsible for 1/2 of the debt. Can I be held responsible and if so Can I file bankruptcy to have it discharged?

Quit claim deeds
I quit claimed my marital home over to my ex husband but my name is still on the mortgage because he claims he can’t refinance right now. What happens if he passes away. Would i still have rights to the property or what would happen to it?
I delayed filing a quit claim deed.
I delayed filing a quit claim deed. When I recently picked up the certified copy at the county recorder’s office, there were two liens on the property. I did not sign for either of the loans.
One lien was filed before I filed my deed and the other was taken after I filed my deed.
The City that made the home improvement loans with HUD money wants me to repay both loans or they threatened foreclosure, even though they know and told me they did not do title search and if they had they would have not given the second loan.
I have tried to work with the city. I told them I would make payments. I asked for clarification on whether they want repayment on one or both liens.
It has been two weeks since I heard anything. The last message I received was an email from the director of the loan improvement program for the city saying he would check with the city attorney to see if I owed both liens.
I contacted HUD a couple of days ago but haven’t heard from them either.
