asked to move out so relative can move in
We have been renting our house with a month to month agreement since September of 2002, the landlord/owner called us today and said we have to move out by April 1 so a relative can move in. I could understand if they were going to sell the house but our lives are being uprooted and now we have to relocate when we haven’t had a chance to save for the cost of moving. Is there any liabilirt on the owner/lanlords behalf to pay relocations costs?

Proof of service?
My husband and I moved out of our BX apartment in March after almost a year of fighting for repairs with our LL. We did not have a lease, we were month to month. We relocated to CT in March, and in the mail today we receive a notice of judgement the amount of $$ equal to the months we did not pay rent. The apt was in horrible conditions, with an illegal tenant in the basement, holes in the ceiling etc. I have kept all of the evidence since then. He tried throwing us out, but the judge always found in our favor. How is it possible now in civil court to get a judgement when we were not even aware of the claim? We filed an appropriate change of address and everything. His attny says we have 30 days to contact his office or they will garnish wages and seek property. How is this possible?

Can a landlord put a “governor” on the thermostat?

Can a landlord put a “governor” on the thermostat? Our landlord put a regulator on the thermostat and we cannot turn the airconditioner down past a certain temperature. The airconditioning unit was replaced this past February and have had problems with it. The unit has froze up and shut down in hot weather. The vents have water droplets that collect and drop onto people or the floor. We have complained to the landlord about the unit breaking down, she calls the people who have installed it and blames us for the unit breaking. We have told her about the water, and the now mold from the water. We do not have a lease, the landlord wanted to go month to month after a year. My sister is afraid she will evict us if we cause to many waves.
