Pets in my Apartment Unit
Hello, I recently wanted to acquire a pet for my apartment. I read over my rental contract, and the only portion of it that states anything about pets is that (not a direct quote): Pets are allowed upon approval of the management along with an extra deposit. After reading this, I asked my management about how much the deposit would be and they said that their new policy is to ”No pets allowed” and that this will show up when I renew my rental lease (which is in 5 months). Does that break the rental contract? Can I enforce that the contract I have states that I can have a pet with a deposit? Or is the landlord/apartment management allowed to change the terms of the contract without my consent?
Thank you for your help.
Re: Pets in my Apartment Unit
I do not agree that anything is changed.
Management is simply not approving any more pets, and, therefore, no pet deposit.
I am afraid you will have to move in 5 months to an apartment building more “pet friendly”.
