Lease
I received a letter from the property management company I was renting from for 8 years, over Memorial Day Week-end. The letter stated that they had elected to terminate my lease at noon on June 30th. This was the normal end of the year to year lease I had signed and had for 8 years. I contacted property manager and asked if they could be flexible if needed because it was a shock to get this notice and have such little time to find a new place to live. I received in the mail a notice stating we would have to be out by July 30th instead. No month to month lease, just a notice that I did not have to sign. I’m a single mom and I scrambled to try to find somewhere to live so I could be out by the June 30th date (which is what was originally stated and when my actual lease expired). Now after informing property manager that we will be out of property by the noon deadline on June 30th, I was informed I will still now have to pay the rent for the month of July even though we won’t be living there and have found a new place to live. Is this July rent enforceable? I did not sign for an extension or a month to month lease.
