Independent Contractior rights
I am employed as an exotic dancer and signed a stage rental agreement stating that I was an ‘independent contractor’ not an employee. As an independent contractor, does my employer have the right to fine me for being late, or calling out sick? I’m looking for the laws for an independent contractor, and my rights but I’m having trouble. Do I have any rights?

  1. Re: Independent Contractior rights
If you were truly an independent contractor your relationship with the owner would be governed by contract law. Specifically, the terms of the “stage agreement” between you and the owner would govern.

What does your “stage agreement” say about termination of the relationship? That would form the basis of your rights, if any.

If you would like a review of your agreement, please contact me via email, ed@prolawoffice.com or you can get my phone number by clicking on the Attorney Profile link.
