First of all a power of attorney is used in the event of incapacity or other need for the parent to have another to act on his or her behalf while that person is alive. The power of attorney becomes invalid at the death of the parent (or person granting the power). It is quite often that the same person holds a power of attorney and is appointed executor in a will. That person should be trustworthy and compentent to handle the responsibility entrusted to him or her.
