If a person has a durable power of attorney for a trust, may that person also have a conventional power of attorney for every day transactions, appointing a different attorney-in-fact?

It depends on the power of attorney–many have clauses revoking prior powers of attorney. If not, the later power of attorney supercedes the earlier one wherever it would conflict with the earlier one.
