Garnishments
My husband purchased a brand new car about ten years ago, before he and i were married. He had it for about 1 yr then it was repossesed by the bank with the understanding that he didn’t have to make any more payments this repossesion satisfied the contract. Ten years later a collection agency bought the supposedly cancel contract. Can the collection agency garnish his or my wages for this debt. I have ask for the bill of sale to see what the car resold for.

I sold a car in 2001, but didn’t submit a Vehicle Transfer form as I didn’t know that existed. I am now being called about a towing bill in 2008. Apparently, the new owner never made the title transfer. I cannot locate the bill of sale. What are my options?

Headed to court over questionable debt
I am headed to court over a repossessed vehicle. The only paper I signed for the vehicle was warranty information and the bill of sale. I only signed the bill of sale because I read at the bottom that it meant nothing without secured financing. It was a very late night at the dealership. They tried their hardest to get down payment money, high monthly payments, etc. but I could only do so much. To my knowledge, financing had not been secured, I didn’t have the $300 down payment on the bill of sale, and I never signed loan guaranty paperwork with the loan company. The car was never even registered. The lawyer (collection agency counsel) sent me all the info they have per the judge and the only paper they have that means something is the bill of sale with my name signed at the bottom. The lender’s (Household Auto Finance Corp) name is hand written on the backside of the bill of sale as ”Household” and that is the only mention of the lender. I see no ties between myself and the lender. I never have. Am I screwed? What should I state on my form to submit to the courts before the trial?

Used car dealer bought my car and bounced the check
I live in CT and placed my car on consignment with a used car dealer in CT. He got a buyer who needed to be financed and asked me to sign over the title. He gave me a bill of sale and a check for the car and asked me to hold off on depositing until the loan for his buyer came through. I checked his lot last week and the car is gone and he admitted that he sold it but that he has not received a check from the loan company yet. Since I have the original bill of sale (not a photocopy), I am not sure how the car got registered. Anyhow, the check has insufficient funds. Is this a criminal offense? I call him and I get the run-around. Do I contact my police department or get an attorney – amount is $17,000.
