Apartments are being torn down
We have been told that we have to move out by jan 13 2007 out of our apts due to the apts being torn down. they are requesting that we still pay rent and if we dont we will have 3 days to move out because we are on a month to month deal. what are my rights? We’ve only been given 60 days notice and before this rumor had it that they were to be torn down but were reassured by the apt manager that they werent. we have been lied to
Re: Apartments are being torn down
Your rights are predominately in your paperwork (lease, notices, letters), which we do not have. I also do not know what you mean by their request that you “still pay rent.” I would certainly expect them to collect rent during the time you are there unless you have paperwork that states differently. There are not enough facts stated to speculate further.

Unless you have an unusually forgiving rental agreement, you are subject to eviction if you are not current on your rent payments. Its always a good idea to keep a copy of your money order or check that you pay rent with for your records and get a receipt of payment that indicates the month the rent is for from your landlord. If a landlord issues 60 days notice to vacate to a rent-paying tenant and then makes the tenant move out earlier, the landlord may be subject to legal action.
