Apartment Issue
I remember when I first moved in they told me it would be 200 dollars if we did not prime all the walls back to white, so we painted all of the walls in our apartment, now they are telling us that it is 50 dollars a wall. To equal 1350.00 But no where in the lease agreement does it say that its that much a wall. All that it states is that the walls must be returned to the white they were originally at, it has no dollar amount what so ever. When I confronted them, they told me that it was because that is what the painting company charges them, but I called another IPA apartment group and they said that they never charge over 100 dollars. So my apartment place is being shady I know it. They said that they do not need to list an amount because it is considered a ”damage” and they access it at the end when you move out. What do I do, I have 2 other people that heard the girl tell me it was 200 dollars if it wasnt primed back. Please help me! Thanks

They have to stick to the terms of the contract – verbal agreements or statements mean nothing. I would suggest hiring a lawyer to send a letter to them, as they will likely try to keep your security deposit to offset the alleged “damages.”

I would also have it painted white before you leave, if you haven’t left already.

Please contact me if you need assistance.

Stick to your argument as it is persuasive and compelling. Argue that it was part of the original agreement when you moved in and that you have relied upon it. Advise that you have witnesses and that you dispute their fee.
