end of relationship questions
My girlfriend recently broke up with me. She is working on moving out but still has a few things(table and bookshelves) that need a truck to move. She has not taken her name off the lease. Wondering if she is to pay rent legally since her name is on the lease.
I also bought her some jewelry, and heard that since she broke up with me the jewelry is legally mine even though I gave it to her as a gift. Just wondering if this is true or if it is legally hers since it was a gift, even though the card they were purchased under was under my name.
Also, we got a bedroom furniture set in her name, but she doesn’t want it anymore, so I agreed to take over payments as long as I can get a bill of sale. With that bill of sale is there anyway she would be legally able to come get the furniture stating it is in her name? Or would that bill of sale protect me from that.
Also, this was the only area of law that seemed to be where this would fit.
Re: end of relationship questions
There is nothing that says the landlord has to let her out of the lease. And as long as she is on the lease she could be liable for half the rent. You could both go talk to the landlord and see if they would remove her name.
As far the jewelery, you are probably not getting that back because it was a gift from you to her.
As far as the bedroom furniture, you should get an agreement in writing, so that if she was ever to come back and try and claim it, you would be covered.
