I have some trouble
some friends and i got arrested What happened was we went to this kids house to resolve a problem and it got out of hand and we broke some windows and a car window. the kid who lives at the house Rents from his father. we were contacted by the father/landlord of the kid and he was very reasonable he told us that if we fix what we broke he would drop the charges granted he owns the house but we also broke a window on a car that was owned by one of the kids we were going to confront the guy that ownes the place told us he was also fixing the kids car window and told us if we paid 350 he would have the kid whos car window was smashed drop the charges so we gave him 350$ and he gave us a bill of sale that had writen on it ”paid in full 350 for broken window on car” and he singed it not the kid whos window we broke the guy who owns the house and fixed the car and tommorrow we are going to buy the stuff to fix the house windows with the promise that the charges will be dropped i don’t know what to do or how to save my friend and i because i have a bad feeling we are going to get messed over and they are not going to drop the charges what can i do
Re: I have some trouble
Once a matter is being investigated by the police, only the police or the state’s attorney can “drop the charges”. A victim (the guy that owns the house or the person who owns the car) can express to the police that they are satisfied and don’t wish to pursue the matter, but that does not mean that the police have to stop. If the police are already investigating and you’re working out something with the victims, make sure you get something in writing from each indicating that you have paid for the damages and that they are satisfied. If you are arrested, that cooperation will be beneficial in dealing with the state’s attorney. Keep receipts or cancelled checks for what you pay. Good Luck.
