Rental Lease agreements- for the rentee
A rentor signs a one year lease allowing pets over 35lbs, new owner of the complex changes the requirements as they relate to pets and now all pet owners with dogs over 35 lbs must move out. Is there any legal protection, financial compensation, ability to hold apt. complex owners to the original lease signed by all parties? The lease has 6 mos. remaining before the lease ends. Lease also states that if rentor leaves before lease period expires, he/she must pay two months rent. Can the rentee hold anyone responsible or can he/she be kicked out due to the ‘new’ pet policy? Town is outside of San Francisco, CA, to the south. Thank you for any information or direction you may have.
Re: Rental Lease agreements- for the rentee
Unless the original lease contained a provision (unusual) giving a new owner rights to revise or terminate existing leases, the sale of the property has no effect on your rights and duties under the (unexpired) lease.
