Residential lease
My lease ends on 5/31/09. My landlord now tells me he is selling the property and the house will be actively on the market. Can I end my lease if I don’t want people coming through my residence? Is there a provision in my lease that deals with this issue? What are my rights?
Re: Residential lease
No, it is very unlikely that you will be able to prematurely terminate your lease without penalty for the reason you’ve stated. You should carefully scrutinize a copy of your lease for the answer to your second question.
Any new buyer of the property will take title to the property subject to the terms of your lease, and your rights with respect to any possible new landlord would be essentially the same as they were with the previous one until the lease expires.
